Eyeliner 101

One of the most difficult beauty trends to master this year is the winged eyeliner. From having a shaky hand, to struggling to even out your line, there’s just so much that could go wrong, but those times you get it right are just to die for! So don’t let those mess-ups discourage you from rocking one of fall’s biggest beauty trends.

In the time in which I have been doing winged eyeliner, I’ve figured out a pretty foolproof method of creating the perfect wing, (almost) everyday, as well as gathered a list of my go-to products to make application and correction a breeze!

Step 1: I like to start off with a simple smokey shadow as a base. I like to go with a peach colored shadow on the whole lid. My go-to is Urban Decay’s matte single shadow in the shade ABC GUM. Next I just go in with one of my favorite bronzers such as Too Faced’s Chocolate Soleil and just deepen my crease with a fluffy blending brush to add more dimension. Since I always do my brows beforehand, I just like to take a really pigmented highlighter such as Becca’s Shimmering Skin Perfecter in the shade Opal to highlight the brow bone and finish off the shadows.

When I’m done, it usually looks something like this:

IMG_8788 IMG_8789

Step 2: Next I grab my eyeliner, which lately has been Kat von D’s Lattoo Liner in the color Trooper. I love, love, love this product! It really stays on all day, whether you take a hot shower, or even go jumping off waterfalls (Yes, I have tested this) which is amazing! And when you are ready to take it off, all it takes is a gentle makeup remover! So anyways, what I like to do is first flatten the tip of the brush by just lightly pressing it against the back of my hand. Once I have created a really sharp edge with the eyeliner, I take it and just drag a short line roughly between the edge of my eyebrow and the edge of my eye.

The end result looks something like this:

SNEAKER GAME STRONG: The season’s hottest edit in trending sneakers

2015 seems to be the year of sneakers! Brands ranging between high-end Valentino to sporty Adidas can’t seem to get enough low-top and lace-up sneakers, and neither can I! Here are some of my faves I’m sure you’ll love whether you’re looking for a designer pair or an everyday staple! xo

$132

My all time favorites of course are the cult faves of 2015: The Adidas Stan Smiths. To stand out from the crowd, stay away from the green! Try something more unexpected such as the red heel accent, metallic version or even the zebra print!

Screen Shot 2015-08-04 at 12.07.17 AM

$695

Another fave is the Valentino rendition. Again, switch up the accent color depending on your personal style! I love the classic red which is Valentino’s signature color, but for a more muted look, try this dark brown neutral.

For a more monochrome look, these Jill Sanders are perfect. Clean cut and simple, I’d pair them with a more unique and colorful outfit, or even a greyscale look.

Styling Summer Sunglasses

At the peak of Summer Vacation, everyone is obviously on the hunt for the season’s hottest sunglasses to combat the glare of the sun. For 2015, my hottest pick is without a doubt the Dior So Real sunnies. Elegant and modern, with a sleek design and brow bar, these shades are available in a range of colors, from the well-known silver and metallic lenses even to an all black matte version. Whether you’re a classic a-line day-dress-and-red-lip kinda gal and prefer a tortoise shell frame and light brown lenses or a more monochrome-contemporary-chic girl who prefers a sleek silver look, I’m sure you will find the perfect version that fits your style and personality perfectly.

If the hefty $545 price tag is keeping you from your dream shades, why not try a look-alike pair first to make sure you really love them before committing, or even just to rock the trend for a summer or two? Here are some options to get you started:

Originally, I was always a bit wary of Dior, from their bags to their shoes to their accessories, I just never felt drawn to any of their over the top ensembles which never seemed to be trendy for more than a season. Dior had some of the funkiest runways in the late 90’s and early 2000’s, which were interesting to see, but less interesting to wear. I’m all for classic silhouettes and bringing back some original ideas which is something I felt Dior lacked in recent years, going overboard with fox heads adorning models heads on the runway in 1999 or the satanic-inspired dresses that adorned their 2006 runway. Fashion Powerhouse Chanel for example, was recently able to take their famous tweed fabric, but instead of styling it into one of their classic Jackie-O style two piece jacket and skirt, reworked it into a trendy coat style, the loose and boxy boyfriend coat in 2014. Dior’s lack of these creative yet still classic innovations in previous years always kept me away from their products, but not anymore. Since fashion and music icon Rihanna became the new face of the brand, Dior has been able to venture out into new territory and generally take on a more youthful but still classic approach on modern fashion. Not only with the So Real sunglasses, but also their funky Fusion Sneakers as well as their mini Lady Dior bag everyone is coveting.

SHOES:

To avoid the total “hot mess” 70’s revival, it’s best to do a modern take on some older trends. For example for suede shoes; avoid booties but try some sneakers.

Again, if you’re ready to splurge, go for it. These MiuMiu sneakers are definitely worth it. Touching on the trend of suede, but such a modern take with the slip-on style and fun accent toe.

Youtube Update: Outfit Of The Week, April 2015

Screen Shot 2015-04-19 at 8.00.30 PM

Make sure to check out my latest youtube video featuring some of my favorite outfits for this spring, perfect for this season whether you’re in rainy Munich, sunny Los Angeles, or even anywhere in between!

As you can probably tell from the video, my two favorite shoes for spring are slip on sneakers and ankle boots. In the spring time, especially in coastal regions or central Europe, the weather is not very consistent, often having one day of showers, and full-on sun the next day. Thats why I love to have a favorite pair of shoes for each; boots for cloudy or rainy days, and sneakers for sunny and warmer days.

I hope my video helps you put together your own spring outfits, and helps you find some inspiration for your own wardrobe for spring 2015!

Ever since Kylie Jenner was photographed sporting 6 Cartier Love bracelets on one wrist, the craze for the pricey arm candy has spread amongst fashionistas everywhere. Some willing to drop the $6,600 on the real deal even get multiple, and stack them, to almost create the illusion of a larger cuff. Others, like youtuber Amanda Steele have one or two that add a little bling to any outfit. For those of us not ready to pay the small fortune, there are multiple similar variations for more affordable prices, some even available on amazon.

So whether you’re rocking the real one, or one inspired by it, have fun with your trendy bracelet! Pair it with some other bracelets or a cute watch for a super cute look! I paired mine with my Marc by Marc Jacobs watch (both in rose gold) and was obsessed with how it looked!

February OOTW

Since it’s pretty impossible to have a couple of days of perfectly planned, stylish and trendy outfits in a row, I decided to cheat a little bit and just pick out my four favorite outfits of this month and throw them together into an ultimate lookbook of the month. Enjoy the video, and thank you to Natasha Hitchen for filming it!

Trend mirror’s Guide To The DIY Statement Bag

PicMonkey Collage

I don’t know about you, but I could never bring myself to buy a statement bag. I always tend to stick with black, because for me thats the only color that can be both chic and casual, and will forever be classy and never go out of style. Sometimes, however, especially in spring, I crave a little pop of color in my outfits, and in that moment I wish I had at least one statement bag… So, I started playing around with some accessories to attach to my bag, and came up with my top two favorite things you might already have in your closet to accessorize your monochrome bag! Enjoy

IMG_9766 IMG_1400

A major trend I’ve been seeing on instagram in the past few weeks is accessorizing bags with silk scarves. I took a lot of inspiration from photos I saw of Hermes Birkins and Kellys that had silk scarves wrapped around their handles to add some floral prints into the otherwise plain bag, and wrapped a blue, white and orange silk scarf around one handle of my black mini Antigona. Honestly, I loved the result, I thought the blue and orange look beautiful contrasting with the black bag, and add just enough color without being overwhelming. For my red bag, I wanted to tone down the color, but still elevate the look of the whole bag with a scarf, so I took my Alexander McQueen classic skull print scarf, and just had the corner of it dangle out of the bag. I loved how it helped break up the completely red bag, and add a more grunge twist with the skulls .

IMG_9690 IMG_9678

My second favorite bag accessory was the fur poof. Since the release of Fendi’s Bag Bugs, and just their regular poofs, these little guys have been major trends, and especially hot considering fur is a major spring 2015 trend. I decided to attach a simple light grey poof to the red bag, to downplay the color a bit, but still make it more fun. To the black bag however, I decided to add a bit more color, since that was what it was lacking, so I paired it with a little maroon, royal blue and black Bag Bug. Again, I feel like the colors add just the right amount of pop to the bag without distracting too much from the beautiful shape of the bag.

So, just pair any simple bag you have laying around with a fun and colorful scarf or fur accessory to instantly amp it up and turn it into a statement bag for spring!

Trendmirror Obsessions: Manicures, Part III of Obsession Series

The final edit of the Trendmirror Obsessions (Spring Edition) will be focusing on one of fashion’s most underrated accessories: the manicure. Over the years we’ve seen some crazy nails accompany models down the runway… From bedazzled talons, to 2D inspired square nails and finally to geometric psychedelic designs, we’ve truly seen it all, but brace yourself, because this spring is going to get even more exiting with some negative-space manis. Although they’re nothing new, (Kylie Jenner rocked them months ago), negative-space designs have been all over the runways, so make sure you get used to them, because they’re not going anywhere this spring!

We are truly obsessed with these reverse nails at Charlotte Ronson! Pair this mint green design with an all white ensemble to add a pop of color!

For all you lazy mani-loving girls, try just swiping a half moon at the base of your nail, like this design at Delpozo! Use a bright color for spring to liven up a darker outfit, or match a statement skirt or top!

Screen Shot 2015-01-24 at 11.52.24 PM

Finally, if you’re looking for a more neutral look, copy this simple design from Dion Lee; just swipe a silver polish in a thin line across the side of your nail, for a twist on a classic french tip! Use a metallic shade to suit a monochrome look, or a pastel to add a subtle touch of color.

Trendmirror Obsessions: Footwear, Part II of Obsession Series

Shoes can be quite tricky in terms of whether a style is “hot or not” just because of the fact that each person has a personal style and opinion on what they like and are comfortable wearing. In today’s post, I’m going on a little treasure hunt to find the perfect shoes for spring/summer 2015, and although they are all black, which is quite uncommon for spring, we’ve been seeing a lot of darker colors on the S/S 15 runways, and plus, when does black ever go out of style? Whether you’re a Kim-K-Type, who never leaves the house in anything other than heels, or an on-the-go kinda girl, who always has some trusty (but fashionable of course) sneakers to rely on, I hope you’ll be able to fall in love with your dream shoes here, that will be sure to make you very happy this upcoming season!

Givenchy Laura Leather Ankle Boot

available (and image) via http://www.mytheresa.com

Me being obsessed with boots in summer is an absolute understatement. I know that in a lot of places boots are just not an option in 100 degree weather, but in SoCal weather, they are a summer staple. Now that the Balenciaga Ceinture boot craze has died down quite a bit, these boots are in the spotlight, with their gorgeous little heel, and shiny chain across the front. Pair these with an asymmetrical bodycon dress, or boyfriend jeans and a black crop and you’re ready to go!

The “True Summer Obsessed”

Balenciaga Pierce Leather Sandals

available (and image) via http://www.mytheresa.com

545€

If you really want to dive into the spring/summer time of year, you’re probably looking for some gorgeous sandals, and thank god for Balenciaga because these sandals are a dream. The touch of gold hardware contrasts beautifully with the multiple black leather straps, and the countered footbed makes them super comfy. Wear these with an origami skort and a simple top, or even some cuffed and destroyed skinny jeans and  striped top.

Also, since I forgot to mention this last post, Happy (super late) New Year! I hope you all had a lovely holiday season, and wish you an exiting and fashionable 2015! xo
